Golf for Beginners

Golf So the Golf bug has finally bit you. After all these years of listening to your buddies talk about their Golf outings you have finally decided to take the plunge. I would say you have made a great decision. I have to admit that Golf is a boring game to watch on the television but its a great game to actually play yourself on the course.

So here’s what you need to start with.

First of all you need to buy a decent set of Golf Clubs. If you cannot afford to buy the whole set right now, start with a decent set of few irons and a putter. Later on you can add a Sand wedge and maybe a 5 wood. Then a driver. You might want to buy just the 5 iron to pitching wedge for the set of irons, and not get the harder to hit 3 and 4 irons right now. Learn how to hit your irons reasonable well at the driving range to start. Then find a nice 9 hole par 3 course, to get your feet wet playing golf on a course. Once you are playing fairly well on the par 3 course, then you can think about moving up to the standard size courses. Doing it this way also means you don’t need any woods or driver for you first round, as you don’t need them on the par 3 courses.

Find a friend who you know that golfs (or those buddies that convinced you to take Golf) and join them at the driving range for a few times. Then go out to the course with them once, maybe just riding the cart and observing things before you jump in.

It would not be a bad idea to get a few Golf Lessons before you begin to get the basic right.

You have heard everybody say that you need to practice a lot to Play Golf. But you also need to remember that you have to practise it the “right” way. All that practicing that you do the wrong way is not going to help you. Most of them will video record your swing and help you adjust your game.

Another important addition to your Golf Kit is your Golf Shoes. Your Tennis shoes will work fine in the beginning but it is a good idea to get shoes made specifically for Golfing since the spikes on the shoes help to prevent your feet from TWISTING on the grass during your swing, and this is very important to developing a good consistant Golf Swing.

Nowadays you can get a lot of Golf Tips from the internet or by simply watching the Golf Channel. I would also recommend reading some good Golf Books since there is a lot you can learn from some of the Golfing Greats.

Lastly remember that just like with any sport you have to enjoy the game and learn how to deal with Golf Mental Games.

So Happy Golfing. Who knows you might be the next Tiger Woods.
